MD Gov Hogan Eases Restrictions on Outdoor Activities

Maryland State Superintendent Karen Salmon announced in a press conference Wednesday afternoon that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year. Online learning will continue during this time. The department is working to implement the Maryland Together: Recovery Plan for Education which involves different methods of eventually returning to school in multiple phases.

Governor Larry Hogan also announced the state will be easing restrictions on outdoor activities; as of May 7th, the list of "safe" activities will include boating, fishing, camping, golf, and tennis. Additionally, state parks and beaches will be permitted to reopen for walking and exercise. Playgrounds may be open to the public as well.

According to 47ABC, hospitalization numbers have been on a decline and ICU numbers have plateaued throughout the state. While this leads the governor closer to lifting the stay-at-home order, he says it is critical to continue practicing safe social-distancing and following public health guidelines.
