76ers' Plan to Keep Doc Rivers is the Right Move, But Could Spell Disaster

Chris Broussard: “The Sixers have a lot of decisions to make this offseason. But one of their biggest decisions was reportedly confirmed today: Doc Rivers is returning next season. There was a lot of speculation around him going to the Lakers, but I guess that’s been put to bed. Last night he lashed out at a reporter who questioned his job status, and the part I hated the most about his response was him saying ‘no one picked the 76ers to get as far as they did.’ Doc Rivers was hired to bring them a championship, and they were on the cusp of greatness. At the time he was hired, Joel Embiid was on the verge of being a superstar, Ben Simmons was on the rise and ‘The Process’ was about to start making noise. They’ve had high expectations the last few years, and fell short. I’m not killing the decision to bring back Doc, but I do think it wouldn’t have hurt to look elsewhere for a culture change.”
Rob Parker: “I think Doc was hired way too son following the debacle of the Clippers. Doc sounded defensive last night because things just haven’t gone as planned for him. That’s fair. But I think the X-Factor for the Sixers and Doc in making this work is James Harden. Whatever they do with him will have a domino effect on whatever else happens with the team. I feel they give him one more year, to see if they can get the past version of Harden, but if that doesn’t happen, tougher decisions will have to be made.”

The Odd Couple’s Chris Broussard and Rob Parker discuss the Philadelphia 76ers decision to bring head coach Doc Rivers back for another season. Chris and Rob aren’t in disagreement with the decision; however feel Doc’s future with the team hinges on James Harden’s performance next season.
